PUBLIC HOUSING RESIDENTS WIN ANOTHER VICTORY HACLA DELAYS PLANS TO PRIVATIZE PUBLIC HOUSING

Two years ago HACLA announced its plans to dispose of public housing and convert the projects into Section 8. This meant fewer protections for residents, opened the possibility to sell the development to private owners, uncertain housing conditions for all residents, and the elimination of resident representation. Residents from public housing projects across the city of LA organized to fight to pre-serve public housing. Through door knocking, house meetings, testifying at public hearings, and meetings with HACLA officials we were able to work with
HACLA and postpone plans for 2011 and 2012 to dispose of public housing.

This is another example of how residents working together can make change in our communities!
