Union de Vecinos was founded fifteen years ago in the struggle to protect public housing in Los Angeles. Â At the time we were an the margins of the debate around public housing. Â But things are changing, Â with the economic crisis and the failure of market based strategies to address housing problems in the country more people are reevaluating the role of government in providing homes for low income people.
On Tuesday May 18, 2010 Right To The City’s HUD work group released its long anticipated report “We Call The Projects Home”. The report, in which Union de Vecinos participated, Â developed by public housing residents, organizers, and allies calls for the maintenance and expansion of public housing in the U.S.
